Yummmmmmmm-doooo... The brisket at Pappy's is some of the best I've eaten anywhere, and could be pulled apart with a strong glance, the hot link just the right blend of smokey and spicy, with a pronounced smokeline 1/8" into the meat. The slaw is very interesting; it's not creamy, more of a sweet vinegar or dill base. The potato salad, on the other hand, is creamy and mustardy. The sauces, while lacking the variety of Bandana's, are top-notch; tangy, spicy, peppery, sweet but not too sweet unless you overdo it. I'd be hard-pressed to decide between this place and Dinosaur BBQ in New York, and they're both right behind my all-time favorite, Moonlight BBQ in Owensboro, KY. (Moonlight gets mad props for having mutton on the menu, a mustard-based sauce in their arsenal, and the Mother Of All 'Q Buffets.) Pappy's is, no doubt in my mind, the best 'Q jernt in St. Louis, and that's sayin' something.

Open up the nose box access door (*finally*) and we find... A safe?!?!? I have no idea why; I just hope I can rip it out without damaging the floor decking too terribly much.

2004 Victory Vegas, Arlen Ness Signature Series

This is the first example of the Arlen Ness Signature Series of bikes produced by Victory Motorcycles/Polaris Industries, in conjunction with Arlen Ness Enterprises. It sports a 1,500cc air-&-oil-cooled 50° V-twin engine with four valves per cylinder, EFI with 44mm throttle bodies, and a 5-speed tranny. Arlen Ness massaged the Vegas styling, adding the slash-cut exhausts, paint & graphics treatment, and his signature on the side cover.

The bike is on loan from the personal collection of Victory's Vice-President, Mark Blackwell.

Here's the new-to-us 'Woodie; a 1994 Rockwood Lite (I think) model 1910. We found it on eBay about an hour from our house, and it made our Top Three List, then noted that someone else got it. A week later we spotted it relisted - apparently the other bidder was a deadbeat - so we jumped on it like John Belushi on a bag of Doritos.
